The Universal Model has two long-lasting ultraviolet lamps which enable the detection and verification of fluorescent security features found in credit cards, travelers' checks and ID's, as well as in US currency.

The MoneyChecker identifies the 1996 and newer US Currency Series (the US currency that had changes with the size and location of the President's faces) where several new security features have been added.
